Laura U. Marks, a scholar and programmer, works on media art and philosophy with an intercultural focus.  She is the author of The Skin of the Film: Intercultural Cinema, Embodiment, and the Senses (2000), Touch: Sensuous Theory and Multisensory Media (2002), Enfoldment and Infinity: An Islamic Genealogy of New Media Art (2010), and Hanan al-Cinema: Affections for the Moving Image (2015).  Her current research is in intellectual history, developing historical and speculative links between Islamic  and contemporary philosophy and media theory. Marks programs experimental media art for venues around the world.  With Dr. Azadeh Emadi, she is a founding member of the Substantial Motion Research network. Dr. Marks is Grant Strate Professor in the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. www.sfu.ca/~lmarks
