Caren Kaplan is an Associate Professor in Women & Gender Studies and Chair of the Cultural Studies Graduate Group at University of California at Davis. She earned her PhD in the History of Consciousness at UC Santa Cruz. Her first book, Questions of Travel: Postmodern Discourses of Displacement, was published by Duke University Press in 1996. Two new books are in the Duke pipeline: Transporting the Subject: U.S. Technoscience, Militarization and Cosmopolitan Modernities and, in collaboration with Inderpal Grewal, Transnational Feminist Cultural Studies: Markers, Subjects, and Rights in a Global Frame. Postcolonial feminist studies of militarism is a recurrent focus in Kaplan’s work.
