10am – 12pm
San Francisco Campus Boardroom

2014 Visual and Critical Studies MA candidate Erica Gomez will present a screnning of T.M. Scorzafava’s 2011 film, Slip Away. One of few films to bring visibility to Latina lesbians, Slip Away, written and produced by actress Michelle C. Bonilla, eschews stereotypical mainstream representations of Latinas with characters Selena (Lauren Birriel) and Jane (Bonilla). Based on true events, desire becomes an entryway to address themes of addiction and violence—critical issues that are often silenced within the queer community, while also providing a platform to consider the ways in which Latina lesbians have been portrayed in contemporary visual culture.
